Play-themed online exhibition made with free software

I participated in the South Tyrol Free Software Conference (SFSCON, sfscon.it) in Bolzano, Italy (7–8 November 2025), with the talk entitled: “Creating an online exhibition with Free Software tools”. The presentation focused on the creation of a web-based exhibition that offers a visualisation of my book Construction Toys and Modern European Culture: Education, Politics, and Technology, 1830 to 1940 (Routledge, 2025).

This was a pilot project realised at the Research Institute of the Deutsches Museum (Munich), the world’s largest museum of science and technology. The project aim was to demonstrate the potential of digital, Free Software tools for public outreach in museums. In other words, how such tools can enhance the educational impact of museums and inspire new forms of cultural engagement and knowledge discovery among diverse audiences. The play-related theme was ideal for this project.
